Here is a video that I feel is well done....
Google map of the tornado path:
We live on Mission Ridge Dr (blocks from the corner of Mission Ridge Dr & Marian Ln). We are less than 3,000 ft from being in the path. To see that number in feet and not miles hits me even more. My friend Kristen said it well on her blog post as she was one of the adults in my house at the time (10 kids + 3 adults) when the actual tornado came very close to my house... " I went to the bathroom to make sure all the kids were still there, and to take cover. Moments later, I heard an explicative and then the front door slam. The other moms just saw debris flying in the tornado, and they had had enough fun."
The tornado was originally categorized as F3 but has not been confirmed to be an F4 (http://www.tornadoproject.com/fscale/fscale.htm According to this information, an F4 tornado is classified with wind speeds of 207-260 mph and damaged is described as Well-constructed houses leveled; structures with weak foundations blown off some distance; cars thrown and large missiles generated. Also note that at the bottom of this information it states in RED "the size of a tornado is not necessarily an indication of its intensity"
Other stats about the Good Friday tornado of Murfreesboro, TN:
~~traveled a path of 23.25 miles diagonally through Murfreesboro (thus businesses and residential areas, not open fields, etc).
~~It lasted 26 minutes
~~It destroyed approx 100 homes and damaged approx 800
~~Officially, it claimed 2 lives (possibly 3 more) & hospitalized approx 58
Mark and I know a large number of people directly affected by the events on Friday and an entire community (and beyond) that is affected for many reasons. Seeing first hand areas that I drive every day and the area where the woman and 9 week old baby were killed which is 2.8 miles from our house DO really hit me hard and make me very emotional. Then hearing from good friends of ours at church whom live just behind the area where lives were lost........ shared that they saw the remnants of the "It's a Girl" sign from when baby Olivia was born. Seeing in pictures and when I was on Haynes Drive late Friday the "SE" or "C" on doors of homes representing homes that have been searched and this letters meaning the results of that searched for people/bodies.
I think for me personally, these are the things that hit me the most....... to think of a young family just starting their family with their first born little girl.... a father who will NEVER be the same...... these images and thoughts bring a night back into my mind like I cannot fully explain..... that night my very young family was physically all OK, thank God! For all these people affected.... countless people..... included those like me whom have NEVER had a tornado hit this close to home who now look at the sky much differently..... for those who have to look at their houses and feel they are not their homes any longer.... Please pray for us all!
